Background of Huddersfield Philanthropic Initiatives

The University of Huddersfield is a public university in the UK with a history of nearly 200 years, and its Chancellor is Prince Andrew, Duke of York. Its official China Representative Office has been operating in China for close to a decade, with official offices established in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou respectively.Between 2016 and 2017, staff from the University of Huddersfield China Representative Office led returning alumni and prospective students bound for Huddersfield to take an active part in nearly 50 philanthropic initiatives. These included the Angel House Project launched by the China Children and Teenagers' Fund (CCTF), the "I Want to Go to School" Project co-organized by the CCTF and the All-China Women's Federation, the Xi Han Action and Shi Cui Project dedicated to safeguarding inheritors of national intangible cultural heritage, outreach programs for deaf-mute schools in western China, reading clubs for children of migrant workers in southern China, and summer volunteer teaching programs in mountainous areas of Guizhou Province.Among these efforts, the Representative Office sponsored the study and living expenses of 110 left-behind children for three years under the "I Want to Go to School" Project, and also mobilized current students in the UK to launch a follow-up fundraising campaign. For these contributions, it was named Annual Caring Enterprise by the CCTF.

Last May, during the Belt and Road Forum held in Beijing, China, the Representative Office was personally awarded the Best Annual Philanthropy Award by Prince Andrew, Duke of York.

In September, it took an in-depth role in the "Ai Xiao Ya" Project initiated by the China Social Welfare Foundation. In addition to making donations on September 9th (Giving Day), it launched a solidarity campaign themed "Girls, Keep Going" in the UK in October, rallying students and faculty from around the world to support the initiative, followed by participation in on-site philanthropic visits. Moving forward, it will forge deeper exchanges and cooperation with the Ai Xiao Ya Foundation to provide more targeted assistance and support for the project.
